
FLPC is very fortunate to have as our Childbirth Instruction, Diane Howard, RN. Diane and her family have lived in Tehachapi for the past 13 years. Diane has been a labor nurse for 22 years. She is also certified in Obstetrics and Child Birth Education. Diane states, "I love helping women be prepared to deliver their babies and knowledge is control."
The Childbirth Education class is four (4) weeks long and is held on Wednesday afternoons from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. The class is offered at the Door of Hope Building, 112 South Curry Street. The class meets upstairs. A material fee of $25.00 is suggested for the four-week class.
Topics covered:
• Fetal development, nutrition, minor discomforts of pregnancy, danger signs in pregnancy and relaxation.
• Anatomy and physiology of labor, exercises and breathing techniques.
• Pain Theory and comfort measures, labor video, what to expect as you get to the hospital, birth film, medications in labor/labor epidurals, back labor, induction and Cesarean birth.
• Post partum care, breast feeding, infant care, care seats and labor/birth rehearsals.
Our instructor suggests that you begin classes at the beginning of your third trimester.
